Fished Wednesday off Mission Beach for one short halibut and a couple sandbass. The bait barge had a choice between chovies and mixed deans.
Friday I went back to SD Bay hoping they would have better bait then they did last week. Not such luck, just straight chovies and they were on the small size. I had a feeling they wouldn't be out making bait this week so I brought along the light tackle and some light wire circle hooks.
Ended the day with 20-30 bass, 3 short halibut and one at 23". Two times during the day I caught mackerel or lizard fish on the chovies and had a big halibut grab on for a ride. Big bait would have killed in the bay today.
