I'm giving ya 48 hours

I'm giving you tournament guys 48 hour to catch up while I'm sitting on the beach.

On my trip to La Jolla on 5/19 I thought the boat was running 5 to 10 degrees warmer that the last time out. When I get home and do the engine flush the pump isn't sucking much water. After a little trouble shooting I find she's sucking air from the area of the intermediate housing.

I found a $3 bushing missing that centers the top end of the water tube. The bushing missing caused the o-ring to pinch on the bottom end of the tube.

All this so I could get to a $3 plastic bushing. #11 on the drawing

I keep getting this image of you being able to strip and assemble that outdrive blindfolded (just like those M1A's)....now, to check that bushing....rt

Wind and swells have sucked for a couple of weeks and appear to be staying that way this weekend. I don't think you have to worry about anyone else catching much while you are down.

No damage to anything else, just a bushing needed?

I turned that $3 bushing job into a $120 replace everything job. Gathered all the bushings and bearings this morning and will have her back to gether before sundown.

Being that far into it, I went ahead and bought the needle bearing and the rest of the bushings that go in the intermediate housing. Also picked up the helmet nut bushing that I've been meening to replace.

Finished up and test ran in 26 hours. I waisted a good 8 hours sleeping last night and another 8 at work today. Even with those two delays I'm very happy with the results.

By changing the bushings and needle bearing, I reduced the side to side slop on the outdrive to a 1/4". I can't remember it ever being that tight.

The water pick up tube is now air tight as swell. The sea water pump will suck the garden hose flat if run the RPM up over idle.

Now if the wind would die down, life would be grand.
