Decided to put a Bimini top on the Laura Mei after burning my bald head one too many times. Before I knew it the canvas guys talked me into an enclosure. I think it came out pretty nice. Now the Laura Mei is an Outerbanks-Billfisher hybrid.

Damn hot in the summer sun but it all zips off easy.

Looks like you have the best of both worlds now. I like the idea of being inside at night or when it rough and up high when offshore on a nice summer day.

Charlie,
That is a great job. I would like to visit your boat and look at it. I would like to do something similar for my Outerbanks. Who did the canvas work for you? Bill

Mine is a 1984 and never had any type of covering. I would do that if I had the gel coat redon or painted. Mine was a commercial fishing boat so it does not look fancy but is the greatest boat out there and a one of a kind. I still need to have the 4 man life raft redone. I an also thinking about putting some wood rails aroun the fishing area but not sure if should just mount the wood onto the existing rail or remove the steel rail and put a new system around the entire fishing area. Enjoy your new covering. Very clean job. I would imagine it was expensive, my guess above $6K

Thanks Bill - The boat is in Alamitos Bay (Long Beach) - on gangway right out in front of West Marine store. You are certainly welcome to check it out anytime .....the guy that did the work is Bernard from Boat Canvas and Restoration and was recommended by three different people on my dock. I checked out his work on some sailboats and gave him a call - the Bimini top (stainless steel frame) was $1,200 including envelope boot covering for when it is folded up. The enclosure on four sides was $1,800 - everything zips off. The work is very clean - Also had them make a cover for my 11' Boston Whaler tender and it came out really nice. I'll post his phone number later - left it down by boat. Send me a PM if you want to check it out.
