Hi All.
I found some fishing line melted between my props when I went to change the oil and zincs on my outdrive. I messed up the outerseal taking the nut off for the inside prop. (no water in the drive before I started, milky after). I replaced the outer seal, but that didn't work. I was still getting milky oil after a test drive. I ordered some of the tools necessary to change the seals, made a puller sleave for the bearing housing and put together a gauge to pressure test the system. I posted some pictures on our BOCAPIX site. If anyone needs to do this job give me a call. It just take a few hours.

No line cutter on the prop shaft?? After a trip (especially with the in-laws), I pull the props just to see if there are any prizes wrapped around the shaft. I have the line cutter but the line will still get wrapped.

Who's the expert on bellows and u-joint replacement?

Roads are open and slowly drying out........rt

Volvo no longer makes the line cutters for the DP. I think they make more money off the seals and bearings that get trashed, than they did off parts that prevent the problem.

I bought a new set off eBay a year ago and that’s the last set I've seen for sale.

U-joints are a pain in the neck if you don't want to totally disassemble the input shaft. I was able to press them out by myself, but it would have been a lot easier with a third hand. With the gear/plate still on the shaft there is a lot of hardware to hold with one hand and run the press with the other.

I have done the bellows on my DP and the u-joints on my buddy's SX plus lots of automotive u-joints. If you need a third hand I will be there.

Great job. When the shaft on my OD looked like yours (2600 hours) John told me it was time to replace it. Apparently the spring tension on the seal presses hard enough to wear a grove into the SS. They can weld a bead and smooth it out or replace it. If the seal goes on with that grove on the shaft, it can make it easier for water to creep in.

I am planning to replace the shaft next time (unless you have your old shaft I could have welded) More tools to make :D
I will buy the plates necessary to use my side hammer to put the bearing races and I will have all the tools to rebuild the lower gear box.

I didn't keep the shaft, sorry.
If you call Blackman (John) he knows who can weld and grind the shaft if you don't.
