I need to lift a couple of boat motors in and out of the back of my truck a couple of times over the next month. What can I buy or rent that will safely lift a 6 cyl diesel motor on a pallet, in and out of a standard height truck bed? I'm told the motor weighs about 1000 lbs?

Anyone have a lift for sale/rent/borrow that can do the job? Anyone have suggestions of the easiest thing for me to do?

Go to your nearest rental yard and rent a cherry picker.
If you are going to need it more than a few times you can pick one up from harbor freight for about two hundred bucks. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=35915
If you have an "a" frame or an old swing set or even a tree that you really trust you can buy a decent chain fall for about $70. from the same place.

When you set it down use the mounts. Don't set it down on the pan.

I'll check with a friend on the lift but not sure if he sold it already.
