does anyone have information about a billfisher for sale (other than the one on sdboats/yachtworld.com). Would very much like to become a blackman owner.

Thanks

Brian,

What are you lookiong for in a boat? I'm contemplating selling the Tenacious (1984 Billfisher with new Volvo AD-41) but would not take less than $55K for her. However, I'm not really in a hurry either.
I'm not awar of any of the other Billfishers for sale except MAC Attack (see homepage) which looks like a good deal to me.

Welcome Brian,

I hope you find one and get active in our little club. Did you notice we even hold a club highliner's tournament every year? It's pretty fun.

Talk to you later, gotta get back to fixing my boat first.

Thank you very much for all the links to the boats for sale. I've looked at the ones that are on yachtworld.com.

Yellowfin1,
to answer your questions, I am looking for a blackman that is trailerable, in great condition, desiel, will not need work right after I buy it, and hopefully come with a trailer (as I do not want to slip it).

My family is very set on Blackman. After a trip down to their shop and some legnthy discussion, my dad is not interested in any other boat makers. Unfortunately our combined boat funds fall WAY short of a new 26' Billfisher.

I looked at the MacAttack, but it's SOLD... I was too late.

FishWiz,

Thanks for all the help over on B.D.!!!!
Let me know when you want to get rid of that boat :) :) :)

Yes, I have accepted a deposit on the boat, however, the gentleman is having problems with financing. Most lenders will not finance a boat 20 years old regardless of the survey value. I gave him until after the holidays to come up with the rest of the dough. The boat is still in my possesion in my driveway. Most of the people interested are from down south, and are hesitant to make the drive to Marina Del Rey, once I tell them I have accepted a deposit.

Thanks Mike

There is a nice Billfisher down in Loreto for sale. New D-4 and outdrive, very clean with good trailer. Asking $75,000. Steve at Blackmans has the beta on it as the owner is stepping up to a 29' Blackman they are building now.

Brian,
No, Tenacious is a Billfisher. See Boats of BOCA on the left side of this homepage. Tenacious has a picture or two there but, you really have to see the boat in person to appreciate it.

Jorge where are you getting your info? I don't think there is a 29 in the molds yet, only a couple of 26s.

Well, the 26' boat is sitting at Tripui, for sale sign on it, that I saw. Owner is buying a 29 Blackman that I was told. ABT trailers called me and asked for pics of my trailer cuz some dude from Loreto was looking for a trailer for a 29 Blackman. He saw my rig at Tripui, liked the trailer and went to them.

So, the 26 Billfisher is for sale and the 29 I really know nothing about first hand. Figured Steve would know about it. John was suppossed to be at Tripui last week. He might know about the particulars. Beats me. I just know there is a really nice Billfisher for sale at Tripui for asking price of $75,000.

Going back next Sunday. See if I can't get the story straight! At Tripui there are 5 Blackmans.

John (Blackman's mechanic) was just down there last week repairing the Blackman fleet and a few others. I know they have an Express and another Pilothouse on order but haven't heard anything about a 29. I think the one on Yachtworld was sold and it's at my marina now, maybe it's the one going down. The guy that bought To The Limit is a buddy of the guy that just bought the 29; I think he said the 29 sold for $155,000, it looks clean! And I think he said the guy was looking to tow it to San Felipe and launch it and take it down to Loreto. Small World!

Tailchaser,

No the boat is not for sale any longer. I just couldn't stand to lose the one thing that keeps me going. Good luck in your search for a blackman. You won't go wrong with a Billfisher or Outer Banks.

We have a 26' billfisher for sale, its a 2002, fully loaded on electronics, has the single volvo I/O. Has a tv with power antennae, outriggers, full raymarine electronics(autopilot, sonar, radar, chart/gps), it also has an inverter as well as it comes with a trailer with newly recarpeted bunks. It has a full eisenglass enclosure for the flybridge as well as a new cover. The boat has been kept in a garage since last season. It also has a life raft with holder and hydrostatic release, as well as an epirb with hydrostatic release. The boat has been very well maintained. It only has 521 hours. This used to be Charlie's boat, the NOMAD. Looking for 105,000 obo.

Your price range is more for pre-1990 boats; <10 years 65-75K up to 2000

With these boats age is simply a number. A well maintained Blackman of 10-20 years old will outshine most (any) brand new boat in the same size range.
With an older boat you might be closer to a re-power but since most are diesel you very well could get 10-20 years out of a motor that is already 15 years old.
Fancier electronics are the one thing that a newer boat might have over an older one.
Of course that would be the case with a boat that is just a few years old.
The plotter that I installed on my tower a couple of years ago has already become outdated. Still works just fine but not as fancy as some of the new stuff.
I'm very much on the fence about selling my boat. I looked at boats at the Fred Hall show. You couldn't come close to my boat for twice the price of what I've been asking for mine, which is less than half the price of a new comparably equipped Outerbanks.
It might be better if I accept the fact that I don't get to use it as much as I like and just be happy having a bitchin rig whether it's parked next to my house or parked next to an island.
That's all I have to say about that.

I think that around 10 yrs old (i.e not more than 10 but obviously not new) 50-60K is pretty realistic. I realize that this means I'll need to be patient and scrutinize the boats closely, but I'm not in a rush and 60K will be pushing it for me.

Bottom line is that I would like to get the best boat possible for the lowest price . If 60K is really dreamin' for a 10yr old Blackman I may need to re-evaluate. I bet that there is one out there though :D

Give Knot Now Phil a PM, I think his boat is a 97-98 model and he bought it maybe 2-3 years ago and see if he'll tell you what he paid. Just as there are differences between a pre - 86 Billfisher and 86-90 models, there are alot of subtle changes between Pre-90 boats and later that add up in the cost. Less teak, better windows, Flybridge liners, and fiberglass electronic boxes are just a few. The hull is the same, motors and electronics are always upgradable which helps dictate the sale price..
