What weight line were you using?

I spooled up with some fresh #20 last night. I always set the drags at 3-3.5 pound so I figure 20 is all the line strength I will need.

I was second guessing my line choice after clanking the first gaff shot off her head. This is where those smooth, light drags will save the day.

Once she peels off 50 yards of line and settles back down, there's nothing to do but start over like your on a fresh fish and make a better gaff shot ;)

Now I know this might be cutting my nose to spite my face but if you were a member of the MBMC that would be 200.00 fish

Nope, judging by the pic since he missed the first shot one of the members(me) of the protest committee might consider this to be a mutilated fish or maybe a $100/$100 fish ;) if you know what I mean.

Boy that Mike sure set that bar high in that column!

Loading up heavy in the halibut slot this early in the tourney will free up a lot of time for my spring WSB quest.

Most years it would take 100+ hours on the water and $500 in bait before I would put a good bend in a rod.

WSB quest starts thursday. I'll let ya know if the squid showed up in La Jolla.

She had the #2 bait hook in the corner of the mouth and the #8 treble was in a pectoral fin with the line snapped off.
