Thread: Albacore 22 miles out from Mission Bay

Default Albacore 22 miles out from Mission Bay

Left the dock at 0200 and headed to the 371. Nothing happening there and a few reports from the 302 so we head that way and found several boats and caught one albacore. Still slow and we finally made our way up to the 182 and had a ball. Double and triple jig strikes for the next two hours. It was good but now hot and there were always boats stopped.

What worked for us were zuccini feathers. The numbers for the 302 were 32 over 28 and 117 over 28. Also 32 over 31 and 117 over 31. For the 182 I don't have the numbers with me but four miles south and east of the high spot. Big area and hard to miss. GPS showed we were 22 miles from Mission Bay. Not too bad.

It sounds like we mirrored each other all day.

We left at 3am, hit the 371 at gray light for a single, up to the 28 over 28 numbers for another single. After that we should have follwed your lead to the 182 but we went back to the 371 to check on the area with bait we left in the morning.

By the time we get down ther it's going off 25 mile up the line. Got to the area 4 below the 182 by mid afternoon for a single and a double that we managed to dump both fish. After that we knew it wasn't going to be our day so we headed for the barn.

    Default Albacore trip

Going out tomorrow morning to triangle the 182, 43 and the north end of the 226. Any one else going to be out there? If so give me a call on 72. Drop down to 68 when we get a hold of each other. I'll be heading out of Sd bay at 5:30 am. Not that far to go so no sense leaving at OH dark hundred.

There was nothing going on down by the 226 on friday. Most of the action was 3-4 south east of the 182, but those fish could be who knows where by Sunday.

    Default Albacore run

No problem. Thanks. Will stick a little closer to the 182 and work around that area. Like you said, they could be anywhere by now but I have reliable info that I will call late this eve for final areas to go.

Just got back from the 182, everyone is there. Caught 5, one triple and two singles. All jig fish. They won't come up on bait, tried every trick.

    Default albacore bite

Thanks for info. I heard that also from friend out on egg harbor today. He metered a lot of fish but they were deep. I always bag my left over bait and put in freezer just for times like this. Once we identify the area I'll stop and grind out a lot of bait then chunk for about an hour. It's awsum when they come up boiling. Especially if I can find the right paddie to go with it. Thanks again for info.

Did all that with the dead bait (most rolled, garbage bait out of MB right now), the fish would not come up.
