Thread: Shaft Repair

    Default Shaft Repair

Well, my shaft repair will be under way now. I arranged for John to pick up TUNACIOUS at the Dana Point launch ramp on Friday. I used Vessel Assist to move the boat ot the launch ramp at 0830 and John arrived at 0915. Great timing. The shaft busted 1.5" past the strut, nice jagged break. I hope it gets finished soon. I ordered a new Simrad AP16 with remote while it is at the shop also, so it is not all bad news.
Keeping my fingers crossed on the insurance company covering the repair.

    Hey Bob,

Curious to know how the repair went...beside the shaft, did you have any problems with the cutless bearing?

    Hi Guys.

The job is complete. Steve and John replaced the shaft, coupler, prop, strut bearing, straighten the rudder, rubber sleve from shaft tube to packing gland and new Simrad AP16 with remote on tower. The prop is a little too strong. I need to take some pitch off and the new strut bushing squels at idle speed. Steve has assured me the squel will go away with some use. I had my diver pull the prop and put a 4 blade on. Its nice to have the boat back before the holiday weekend.
