The story I got this morning was they were coming back from the 425/371 area, the owner was sleeping in the V berth and his buddy was driving. There were 2 whales, 1 came up right under the boat, the owner gets slammed on the top of the V berth ! The outdrive gets severe damage and they were dead in the water; Sea Tow towed them in. 2006 Billfisher they just acquired.

I can hear it now. You should see the one that got away. It got tangled in the out drive and it broke off. The out drive that is.

They only got about 30 pounds of blubber before the whale sank too deep to cut off any more.

Incredible,We had a whale come within 100ft.moving in the same direction and slighly angling in during a trip in the Sea of Cortez.Sure gets your attention. We gave it right of way.

    Default Damage Control Report

The force of impact knocked the hydraulic rams off, folded one prop blade over, bent the transom shield, cracked the bell housing, and destroyed the lower unit on a KAD 300; no damage to the hull or transducer. 15K to repair.

Is this a occurrence that the usual boat insurance would cover or would it be denied as an "act of nature".
