    Default The Honeygirl rebuild

Let me just say I would much rather be fishing than working on the boat. The fishing is better than its been in a long time which makes working on the boat even harder. I am still dealing with Volvo on them replacing my drive, it's a very, very slow process about one email response a week. It sucks to be the little guy.
During the down time I decided to do some much needed maintenance and some up-grades I have wanted to do since I bought the boat. I have a had a bad oil leak for from the front main seal for awhile and the only way to get to it was to pull the engine out. Well what started as and oil leak fix has spread into other aspects. After pulling the engine I scrubbed the engine compartment and added SR 1000, a sound deadening material that you spray on. I have used a similar material on my hot rods and custom cars and it works great. We will see if it has the same affect on the boat.

I want my boat very quiet. I have rode on a few other boats lately and they were much quieter than mine, so I also added this 1/2 inch sound deadener to the walls of the engine compartment. I heard a lot of talk of how heavy the stuff was but after looking at it, it really doesn't weight much at all. I think I removed more weight in junk out of my side compartments that the weight of the deadener. I have to finish attaching the soundproofing and the plumbing for the pumps. Its only in the mock up stages here. I also installed new larger thur hulls and two new bait pumps. Changed the water manifold to be more functional and a new wash down pump. More to come next week. Joe,

I appreciate what you’re going through. I’m in the boatyard for about 45 days to repair some damage done to the stern of the boat in the marina. The guy coming out of the slip across from me lost his throttle and hit the stern of the Riley 4 times. Damage was primarily cosmetic. Why does this stuff have to happen when the best close bite in 10 years is going on? I just replaced the soundproofing in my engine areas and I must say the material your using looks much better.

A1 Job Joe, looks very nice and the perfect time to complete it. Do you have alot of bait pump problems, why 2 pumps for the same tank? How many GPH for each pump? Just curious.

I did have a lot bait pump problems; I run a 110 gallon tank. I feel it’s a must for fishing the island and using squid as bait. Also if I ever get into fishing marlin tournaments I wanted the larger tank. The boat came from Blackman with Jabsco pumps and they lasted about a year and a half. There was a rebuild kit you could buy but mine we to far gone so I threw them in the trash(300 bucks in the trash) come to find out there is a 3year no questions asked warranty on all jabsco pumps. ITT just replaced my wash down pump with out questions "very cool". Next I went to the Surflo pumps which is the same style as the Jabsco’s what a pill of shit; I really should have done my home work. They have a heavy amp draw 12.3 and only last about six months. After the last pumps failed I called offshore specialties and asked what they are installing. He stated the best pump on the market today is the tournament series 1600 buy Rule another ITT product the owners of Jabsco. I have been running the same pump for a over a year and a half with no problems and it amp draw is less than 5.0

    Joe,
Do you know if the Rule pumps have the same warranty as the Jabsco? Is tough finding too much info about either: ITT didn't put a whole lot of effort into the webpage.

I also had the Jabsco pumps and they suck! I switched over to the Rule 1000 gph bait pump and I love it. The Jabsco was very loud and it took for ever to fill the tank. The Rule fills it in about 5 minutes and is very quiet. I also canned the Jabsco wash down pump and got the biggest Shurflo I could find, it shoots water 20 yards and makes short work of a bloody deck. After reeding this I hope it lasts. Both pumps are only 9 months old and trouble free so far.

All ITT products have a 3 year warranty. I sent them an email explain that I needed a wash down pump repaired that I bought a year ago. The guy responded asking for the model#, serial # and MY address 3 days later I had a pump on my front porch. I run the Jabsco par-max and it works great.

very nice Joe! I have the same leak on my KAD43 and it is a bloody mess
to clean up after every trip. I am sure the gal at Sunset Aquatic think I am
reselling all the oil pads I asked for.

Looks like I am going to have to take her in this off-season.
