Default Check your ground tackle & check it often!

Interesting weekend! I don't know if anyone here have seen the movie
"Ghost Ship" where a boat moving in the fog all of sudden had a freight
liner right in front of it. I had somewhat of a similar situation in Cat
    Harbor last Saturday...

One of my favorite kelp line on the back side of Catalina have been good
WSB fishing for over 8 weeks now. I often fish to dark and stay overnight
and fish it again when I wake up. When I have the Mrs. and the knuckleheads,
I will cruise to Cat Harbor to stay the night and hammer the Calis in the dark.

It was blowing a good 20 knots last Saturday so I decide to head to Cat
Harbor early. It was still blowing pretty good in the evenning to about 11pm.
I had enough fun with the Calis so I decide to take a shower and hit the sack.

I woke up at 3am and the boat was floating instead of the usually bobbing.
Not sure if that makes sense to y'all...my bladder was saying go so I figure
I might all well check on the anchor while I am at it. Well, I don't know if I
finish or if my bladder just empty real quickly cause just as I started peeing,
I look up to see a dark big ass bow of a yacht!!! Holy shit! I ran to the bow
to see if I can get some slack out of my anchor line, but to my dismay, no
chain or anchor! Climb the bridge and start the motor and put her on forward.
The Mrs. woke up so we spoke and figure best thing to do is head home in
    the dark.

Well, I checked the rode and found the the splice came un-done! I am going
to speak to the person that spliced my rode to chain later today. BD guys
    recommend him...

We were extremely lucky to say the least. I could have been much worse! However,
I did loose an genuine Bruce anchor. I has been good to me. Hopefully, I can find another one.

Moral to the story... CHECK YOUR GROUND TACKLE!!!

    Wamei,
Glad to hear you guys are ok. I am always thinking about the anchor moving or something when I am asleep at the island. Good advice to check the anchor rode ........I bought 300 feet of 1/2 inch stuff last season just to be safe ....
let us know what the guys say about why the splice came undo ....
