That's 1-800-CAL-TIP for those of you looking for easy money. Can I put a BSB in my Wildcard Column?
Sure, if it's a legal catch in Mexico. I know it's OK to catch Cowcod in Mexico, but I'm still not real clear on importing one, so I sent it back down.
I saw a few in the counts last week from the Sportboats but I'm not going to push it until I know for sure.

The fish is legal in Mexico but not in the US. The procedure is catch it in Mexico, weigh it and take a picture for the leader board in Mexico, and then have it for lunch in Mexico. There is a specific exemption for Mexican caught BSB but not for Cow Cod.

I went by the DFG office on Tuesday and questioned them on bringing back a Cowcod. I asked them to email the answer to me. So far no reply.

I think they rewrote the importation law in the Fish & Game Code Section 2353; Effective in 2009 it's now illegal to possess or import any animal or fish designated "no take" in California unless it is specifically allowed in the regulations (i.e. Black Sea Bass, 2 per person provided they possess a valid Mexican Sportfishing License). the code reads like this:
(a) Birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, or amphibians shall not
be imported or possessed in this state unless all of the following
requirements are met:
(1) The animals were legally taken and legally possessed outside
of this state.
(2) This code and regulations adopted pursuant thereto do not
expressly prohibit their possession in this state.
(3) A declaration is submitted to the department or a designated
state or federal agency at or immediately before the time of entry,
in the form and manner prescribed by the department.

Nice fish Jeff. The leader board is going to get a lot tighter on August 1st when the top two boats get DQed for breaking rule number 1 (There are NO entry fees but you must be a Blackman owner to participate! Blackman Skippers must be current with their BOCA dues during the tournament ($25.00 annually) to compete. ). Hint, Hint Tony and Zack.
