    Default A Day in Infamy

I just heard this morning that Friday, March 30th, 2012 was the last day of Blackman Boats. The deep recession and a few other factors have finally shut down one of the finest boat builders here on the West Coast. I'm not sure what it means for all of us Blackman Owners, but a sad day to say the least. Nobody is building boats right now and we've seen the price of used Blackmans fall way down in the past 2-3 years. There's a brand new 26' Express at the shop with 6 hours on it and a 26' Billfisher hull just waiting for a motor and electronics package to be procurred; I haven't heard what Steve and Shirley will do with those and the rest of the shop.

CRAP! We were all just talking down at J-Dock about the economy and if Blackman Boats was going to survive. Very sad.

BTW: It REALLY sucks if now if you're trying to sell a newer one that somebody needs to get a loan on. When I was talking to the bank (I was looking at a new Parker) they would only do 80% of NADA guide on a boat with the manufacturer in business.

Interesting...They should have been able to survive off of service work on all the boats out there. But we all know why that didn't happen. In any case, what a shame. Maybe they will come back to life again some day.

I think this might be all my fault. I stopped by the shop on Thursday and asked Steve to start the paper work on a new 32. I told him I was going all in on the Mega Million Lotto and I’d come by Friday night with the deposit. I guess when I didn’t show he scrapped the plans for my 32 Blackman

Steve called me last week and said that Fred Hall was the last draw for him. He said people were so negative about fuel prices, Fish & Game, MLPA, Mexico and the lousy fishing he just didn't see any light at the end of the tunnel. He said he was going to put the 3 molds up for sale and had a bunch of power tools to sell. Still, I will never forget the good old days like this one with Don guiding my hull out of the mold on my first Blackman.

    Very sad to hear indeed.

I'm with Tony, maybe they can come back to life someday.

Just saw the molds for sale on craigslist, hope they go to someone who will do them justice.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I bet Don would have rolled over in his grave if he had one. Sad,sad news.
