Thread: Out drive bellows.

  1. #1

    Question Out drive bellows.

started the boat up the other day on the fresh water system, Ran it for a while looking for leaks and such, So far none found. After pulling it back in the shop I noticed a day later that there was water on the floor, Inspection seems to show water dripping off the large rubber bellows between the out drive and transom.

Is this the only bellows or is it an outer cover with rubber hoses inside it? should water have been getting past this a day or so later? Dont want to put it back in water if this is not water tight but needs to be.

Upper (large) bellow should be dry. Water in that one is usually not your friend! Only covers shaft and u-joints. Kinda sounds like the shaft seal is leaking. Time for a vacuum and pressure test. You have the beefy outdrive and could be different? Should be someone in the club with the same outdrive that has some insight. Zack
