    Default Where to buy lumber

Does anyone know where we can buy boat lumber locally? Teak trim, paneling, etc. Tore out a rotted side panel that was in the pilot house and now we need to find something to replace it with. Thinking maple ply from Lowes? Trying to avoid ordering online, can't see what you're getting.

Dont really know what your wanting for a out come with your project. Are you matching whats already there or gutting everything and starting fresh. Maybe try a hard wood dealer in your area for the bulk of items and the trim pieces can be bought at most marine part stores ie. West marine, SD marine exchange ect. What I think works well is to get marine ply and glue down door skins which come in hundreds of grain patterns.
Sure wwish I had a pilot house the climbing up and down is getting very old.
Good luck and lets see pics of your project

The old panels are ply with some sort of veneer, looks very 60ish. That was painted over with epoxy paint at some later time. We're making a few small changes as far as the finished size and shape, but otherwise keeping it pretty much the same. Never thought of door skins, that sounds promising. Trying to avoid West Marine for teak, they're pretty expensive. Always on the lookout for alternative resources.

Frost Hardwood off Miramar Road in San Diego will have teak and the Marine Grade Plywood you will need to make the correct repair if it is structural, that's probably where Blackman bought the material originally. Cheaper than West Marine by far!
