    Default 1997 42 p-a duo prop

Anyone running this engine or have any experience? Looking to replace my 41a with the 42 p-a but not sue if it's a true easy swap out. Any input appreciated.

    Thanks Randy

No just looking to repower, just had the upper and lower rebuilt last year.

I think the 42s & 43s have a different gear ratio than the 41s; yours is probably a 1.92/1 where as the 42s,43s, and a few later 41s have 1.78/1 gears

Made the commitment and dove in to repowering to the 42 P-A, after 3 months of cleaning, painting and replacing some parts it's finally in, installation was a bit tighter than the 41 A. Next step is to change to the 1.78 gears, from what I hear the 1.95 won't last very long. Zack you were right it's a different boat now, no smoke and way faster.

So what is "way faster", is it 3-4 knots more or 10-15?
Did you swap in a running take out or a rebuild? And what did you pay for it?

Hey Brian, it as a runnng take out, but i ended up replacing the oil cooler, raw water pump and a bunch of misc parts. Motor was 7 grand plus about another 3 with all the parts etc. i gained about 5 more kts on the top end but the mid range is where it's noticable, wot is now 28 kts. Almost forgot no more black transon from the exhaust and better fuel economy
