I have a set of A-4s that would be good for a spare set for $200 and a set of A-2s that are good for primary use for $250. I can be reached at (858) 945-6594. Thanks, Dan

VP Duoprops are numbered from 1 to 7, with 1 being the least amount of pitch and 7, the most. If you run A-4s now, can reach WOT with full fuel, people and gear, then you are propped correctly. If you over-rev, you need to go up in size. If you can't reach WOT, and the engine gets hot (fully loaded), you need to go down in size/number.

A series has a 3-blade large front prop, and 4-blade rear smaller prop.
    B series has 3-blade both.

    Glenn,

Are you running A4s now and is that working for you?

I am now running A4s. And for the first time in 1.5 years, the boat is running better then ever before. I thought I needed to go up to A5s since I could hit 27 knots with my KAD42 - 230 HP, but it turns out that even with 3/4 tank in the bay and bait tank full, when I get outside the bay in any chop, 3 people, 100 lbs of ice and all our gear, the A4s are the limit almost at about 20-22 knots with no heat issues and able to hit WOT. Any chop at all, and I don't want to go over 22-23 knots, even though it will.

Need to return the A3s to Phil, and got like sets of B3,4,5s I think to sell now.

    Default Which ratio DP?

I was talking to Steve at Blackman and he informed me that my boat was delieved with 1.78:1 ratio DP-D while most have the 1.95:1 ratio. That might explain a lot. I am using A3, speed at idle is 4-5 knots....

    Glen
    Is your drive a 1.95:1?

Does anyone else have the 1.78:1?
    Does anyone have the 2.30:1?

I would think the higher pitch props turning slower (like the 1.95:1) might be better. Anyone have an information as to prop speed VS pitch.

I have the 1:78 DP-D outdrive now. Brand new August last year after I chewed the gears on my old one. My old one was the same ratio, but I think it was a DP-C. I can turn B5s, but they cavitated too much. The A4s are the best I've ever had. Tried B3, B4, and B5 last year, not as good. Got a set of A5s I could try, but I like not seeing the temp get close to hot no matter the chop, load, speed.
