    Those of you that bought your boat new, know what your hull number is. By looking at the number etched in the transom, can I determine what my hull number is?
    The number I'm looking at starts with BDB followed by 4 or 5 numbers, a letter, 2 numbers and a letter.

    Mike

    I checked the Excalibur hull number today on the transom. Number is
    BDB99175m82k. Boat was made in 82, but I don't know what the other numbers mean. Correction, found my original receipt which says hull number 175.

    I guessed at mine by looking at the letters/numbers, what you have said about your number, and assume the following:
    BDB99202M83D

    BDB = Boat Don Blackman?
    xx(99) = no idea
    202 = Hull Number on my 1983
    M = no idea
    83 = year
    D = no idea

    I believe mine was done in Dec 1983. They built 27 boats from 1982 to 1983? I wonder.

    Notice that Art's number ends with a K as does Mike's. Both are 23 footers. Glenn's is a 26 footer and ends in a D. Hmmmmmmmmm. Could be M=model. So it would go hull number, then the year, then the model of the boat. This way he could keep track of how many 20s,23s, and 26s he built. Not sure.

    I think the letter stands for a different month of manufacture. With 3 months beginning with a J and 2 with Ms, there must be a code.

    This is what Shirley told me about the Hijole. BDB99282L888
    Boat serial numbers have 12 digits.Trailers and cars have something different.

    The first 3 letters are the initials of the boat builders; BDB
    last name( B=Blackman), first name(D=Don), last name(B=Blackman).

    The next two digits (99) are place holders in case they need more numbers later.

    The next number (282) represents the boat was the 282nd boat built.

    The letter (L= December) is the sequence of the month the boat was built.
    January=A, February=B, March=C, etc.

    The next number (8) is the day it was built.

    The last two digits is the year 88= 1988.

    Shirley told me that I could have requested to have the date registered in January so that the boat had the year built as 1989.Some people like this to indicate a newer boat.
