Default Testing, one, two, test, test

Had to go and catch a fish, just to see if the report board was still active.

Walked a few miles of beach this morning tossing the new Gulp sand flea. Two dinks and a couple short bite was all I could manage.

    Default Cool

How much fuel did you burn?
    Ha ha.
How did you rig the sand flea?
I have some of the shrimp and swimming minnows (curly tail grubs) but I really haven't caught much on them. Not a lot of confidence.
The grubs should be fine but they always were even without the special formula.

I burned less than 2 gallons of diesel in my old Mercedes getting to the beach. The boat is on "E" and my Mexican permits are expired, so this is what I'll be doing until the fishing picks and I feel like dropping $400 on fuel and permits.

When fishing for surf perch, I go with a Carolina rig(egg sinker, bead, swivel, 18" of #4 fluorocarbon and a #4 bait hook). This week I'm going to try Ghost Shrimp for bait. I found a spot that has some 1"-2" shrimp that should drive the perch crazy.

I need to get this surf fishing thing down. My 8 year old nephew wants me to take him and 4 buddies down to the beach for his birthday next weekend.

I tossed a dime in the bucket for size reference

    Mike,
Do you suck those up out of the sand with that special hand pump?

I had some weekend work postponed so it looks like the lower 9 for me Sunday if my boat still works; I hate that first trip on the boat after a long dryspell, always waiting for something to not function and having to scramble to save a trip! I can't wait to find out the Mission Bay on the water fuel price now!

You can make a pump real cheap. Look for the little ant hills at low tide in the bay and suck up some sand. Limit is 50 on the ghost shrimp.

    Plans at http://www.limestonemedia.com/fishin...rimp-pump.html

Here are the two I made this week.

Very cool, thanks! The last thing I need is a overlimit ticket for dime sized shrimp!

The Mission Bay shrimp are up to 4", to big for the surf but great for the back bay spotty fishing.

    Default Ghost shrimp are awesome!

    Everything eats ghost shrimp.
Calicos, halibut, perch, croaker (all varieties) well like I said everything.
I used to fish them a lot with about a 2 or 4 wide gap hook.
They are a bitch to cast though.
