We came home early because we both ate something bad. LOL actually it went away, so I don't know what caused the problem. Fishing was tough for us.....I had cell phone coverage at CAT, where we spent the thursday night........No fish at Cat for us.
Found a Patty near the 182 for a couple of YT.....Our plan was to go out to the cortez banks on friday if the weather was good....but we had to come back just in case...LOL Last edited by Knot Now : 06-21-2008 at 09:40 PM. |

Zack and I opted to go up a day early and do a little looking around. We trailered up to Dana and shot over to the east end by mid afternoon on Wednesday.
First order of business was to locate the squid. Did some metering around in the V's and Palisades areas and located some stuff that looked worth coming back to in the evening. The squid floated early and in big numbers that night, so we loaded up with enough to carry up through the next couple of days. After making the squid Wednesday evening, everything thing else is a little fuzzy in my mind as to what happened when. In-between running the length of the backside looking for the right condition for the C bass we did a little halibut fishing. Fishing was tough with very little current over the 3 days we worked the backside. With no good drift to move us along we had to fish a few small spots Zack had in memory for the 3 legal halibut over the next couple days. The calicos bit well on a couple of the spots we tried but the only Cbass we saw were the ones that snuck up on us when we were halibut fishing. We were making a drift and shooting the breeze when we look out back and see 6 or 7 Cbass on the surface coming up the line. Zack gets a squid out and one turns to take a look just as some bait bust off to the side and they sink out. That was are one and only close encounter with the right kind for the trip. Back at the squid grounds on Thursday afternoon we see a Blackman fishing in on the beach and later find out that is was Pat and his family. A few hours later Phil comes in from Clemente where he spent the first half of his trip and Joe arrives few hours after dark. Most of Friday was spent looking over the other end of the island in hopes of finding better conditions. Still no current to get thing going, we settle for some more calico fishing to pass the time. By Friday afternoon the long day are starting to wear us down and we made the decision to cut it short and head for home. Thanks for the invite Zack and great to see the rest of the guys that made it over. Next time we get together we should set a few hours aside and meet at Cat harbor and go on the beach for a burger and a beer. Mike Phil and Pat waiting for the sun to go down on the bait grounds.

I'd post a report but I think you guys pretty much covered it. The only C-bass I saw came up in the squid light for about 5 seconds. They were smaller models about 15-20#'s , but I would have ben glad to get get even one of those at that point.
